Welcome to the enhanced security experience with Exium! Follow these simple steps to install our macOS client and fortify your digital workspace. Installation is a single command you paste into Terminal, and you only do it once.
Before You Start:
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| macOS | macOS 12 (Monterey) or later. Apple silicon and Intel are both supported. |
| Account | Sign in as an administrator, and run the installer as root. See Assistance with Installation and Service Usage Issues if your user is not an administrator. |
| Invite | The welcome email from your workspace admin. The download link and activation token are valid for one hour. |
| Network | The Mac needs internet access for the whole install. Don't let it sleep partway through. |
Your workspace IT admin has added you as a user, and a personalised welcome email is on its way to your inbox. See the guide on how to initiate an email invite here: Instructions for MSP Admins.
Keep an eye out for this invitation, as it contains a link to download our cutting-edge software and your unique activation token. Act swiftly, as the activation token and welcome link are valid for just one hour.
Need a re-invite? No worries, your workspace admin has you covered. You can also sign in to NETGEAR Exium using the Workspace and Email shown in the Your sign-in details box at the bottom of the email.
In the Select your device type to get started section of the email, click the Mac tile. This opens the macOS installation page in your browser.

The page confirms You Are Verified and shows two commands, each with its own Copy Command button:
sudo -scurl -sSL https://s3-api.exium.net/… command. This is the installer: it downloads the install script to /tmp, makes it executable, and runs it with your activation token, workspace and username already filled in.

The page shows a countdown and closes itself after about ten minutes. Work through the remaining steps before it runs out. If it closes too soon, click the Mac tile in the email again to get a fresh command.
Open Terminal (Applications → Utilities → Terminal, or Spotlight → "Terminal") and switch to root:
sudo -s
Enter your Mac password when prompted. If you skip this step, the installer stops with the message below:
macOS installation script must run as root. Please switch to root(sudo -s) and run installation script again
If your user does not have admin privileges, log in as a user with admin privileges and run the script from there. For help granting admin rights, see Assistance with Installation and Service Usage Issues.
Paste the long curl -sSL … command from Step 3 into the same Terminal window and press Return.
The script first confirms your macOS version, the installing user and their admin rights, then reports that installation takes approximately 10-30 minutes depending on network speed. In practice it usually finishes in a few minutes.
While it runs:
You can find a list of the security software modules that Exium installs as part of the client package on the Exium Client Software page.
Congratulations! Your client is now activated. You are done when all three of these are true:
- Terminal reports ✓ INSTALLATION COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY, followed by the total installation time
- macOS shows a notification confirming the client is active
- The SASE icon appears in the menu bar, showing your workspace and connection state
Experience peace of mind as you navigate the digital landscape with Exium's robust protection.
